“Schweigstück” is the first joint work of Jan Burkhardt and Frank Willens. They ask themselves the question: “What happens if one omitted the spoken and written language in a process, a piece on the stage?”
They must not talk about their work during the entire process of development. They are not allowed to talk to each other or to talk about the project. They can listen to what rehearsals say about what they have seen, but they must not answer. By prohibiting the verbal, they want to examine the ability of the speaking body. What can the mere body express? Can two bodies make a choreography? What does the body actually have to say?

Frank James Willens lives and works in Berlin since 2003. He worked among others. With Tino Sehgal, Meg Stuart and Laurent Chétouane. He is an active member of Ponderosa / Gut-Stolzenhagen and teaches at P.O.R.C.H. Within the framework of the Tanzinitiative Hamburg he realized the project “Gimme Shelter” in May 2010, a living installation with his partner Ulrike Bodammer and her joint son Elijas.

Jan Burkhardt is a dancer, choreographer and musician. He lives and works in Berlin and cooperates nationally and internationally with various artists and companies. In addition to his own projects (most recently “Vexations” for ImpulsTanz 2009, Vienna), he has been working with Laurent Chétouane since 2007.

„Schweigstück“ ist die erste gemeinsame Arbeit von Jan Burkhardt und Frank Willens. Sie stellen sich die Frage: „Was passiert, wenn man die gesprochene und geschriebene Sprache weglässt in einem Prozess, ein Stück auf die Bühne zu bringen?“
Während des gesamten Enstehungsprozesses dürfen sie nicht über ihre Arbeit sprechen. Sie dürfen nicht miteinander und auch nicht mit anderen über das Projekt reden. Sie dürfen sich anhören, was Probenbesucher über das Gesehene sagen, aber sie dürfen nicht antworten. Durch das Verbot des Verbalen wollen sie die Fähigkeit des sprechenden Körpers untersuchen. Was kann der bloße Körper ausdrücken? Können zwei Körper eine Choreografie machen? Was hat der Körper eigentlich zu sagen?

Frank James Willens lebt und arbeitet seit 2003 in Berlin. Er arbeitete u.a. mit Tino Sehgal, Meg Stuart und Laurent Chétouane. Er ist ein aktives Mitglied der Ponderosa/Gut-Stolzenhagen und unterrichtet bei P.O.R.C.H. Im Rahmen der Tanzinitiative Hamburg realisierte er im Mai 2010 das Projekt “Gimme Shelter”, eine lebende Installation mit seiner Partnerin Ulrike Bodammer und ihrem gemeinsamen Sohn Elijas.

Jan Burkhardt ist Tänzer, Choreograf und Musiker. Er lebt und arbeitet in Berlin und kooperiert national und international mit verschiedenen Künstlern und Kompanien. Neben eigenen Projekten (zuletzt „Vexations“ für ImpulsTanz 2009, Wien) arbeitet er seit 2007 vor allem mit Laurent Chétouane.
