So Emotional

Tanztage Berlin 2018 | Sophiensæle

Production Details / Press Releases

EMOTIONALLY OVERLOADED FORMS circulate online and offline sculpting the surface of our bodies and identities. In So Emotional two performers hidden behind white theatrical masks inhabit images of ecstasy and despair, anger and fear to explore historical and contemporary forms of emotions and the emotionality of the forms itself. While shadowing each other, they browse through artworks, memes, gifs, scenes from the movies and music videos. They hack them, pile them up and set them in motion to consider body’s ability to act, resist and transform individually and collectively. If body is a battleground and affect is a new frontier of political struggle, how can we prepare for it? And how can we cultivate micro resistance, when we are trapped in a never-ending chain of repetition and appropriation?

PRZEMEK KAMINSKI studied Dance, Context, Choreography at the HZT Berlin. He creates and presents his works in the context of both performing arts and visual arts. He is interested in working with already existing and circulating forms, using strategies of appropriation, remix and remediation, as well as an in-depth movement research in the process of embodiment.

MATEUSZ SZYMANÓWKA studied cultural, theatre and dance studies in Warsaw and Berlin. He currently lives and works as dramaturge and curator between the two cities. He was involved in the projects of Martin Hansen, Przemek Kamiński, Ania Nowak, Paweł Sakowicz, Agata Siniarska and Marta Ziółek, among others. Since 2017 he has collaborated with Warsaw’s queer festival POMADA on their performative program.

MARTA ZIÓŁEK works as choreographer and performer. She graduated from Interdisciplinary Individual Studies in the Humanities (MISH) at the University of Warsaw and from the School for New Dance Development in Amsterdam. Her work deals with pop culture and new technologies, identity and new rituals as well as with exploring the borders between visual arts, performance art and choreography.
