I think about the actions “see”, “look” and “observe” again. When we “see” something, we use many senses, not just the eyes. Dark and bright, silence and sound, inside and outside the body – these are the limitations of the same thing.

Ayaka Azechi was born in Tokyo and currently lives between Berlin and Tokyo. She develops her own pieces, but also works collaboratively and was among others. To “Dialogues 09 – Neues Museum” (Berlin), “Dialogues09 – MAXXI” (Rome) and “Continu” by Sasha Waltz. Their own pieces “Ao” and “Library” were shown in Berlin, the piece “Earth” in Assisi. Already at a very young age, she studied Modern Dance at Miyako Kato. In 2001-2002 she studied at the Asagaya College of Art and Design, where she choreographed her first solo “Ashi” (“Leg”). In 2002-2005 she danced with Kim Itoh + the Glorious Future. 2006-2007 she was at the Kasai’s butoh school in Japan. In 2008, she received a scholarship from the Japanese government as part of the Overseas Study Program for Artists. In 2011 she was a scholarship holder of the Pola Art Foundation.

Ich denke, zum wiederholten Male, über die Aktionen “sehen”, “schauen” und “beobachten” nach. Wenn wir etwas “sehen”, benutzen wir viele Sinne, nicht nur die Augen. Dunkel und hell, Stille und Klang, innerhalb und außerhalb des Körpers – das sind die Begrenzungen ein und derselben Sache.

Bereits in sehr jungen Jahren lernte sie Modern Dance bei Miyako Kato. 2001- 2002 studierte sie am Asagaya College of Art and Design, wo sie ihr erstes Solo “Ashi” (“Bein”) choreografierte. 2002-2005 tanzte sie bei Kim Itoh + the Glorious Future. 2006- 2007 war sie an der Kasai’s butoh school in Japan. 2008 erhielt sie ein Stipendium der japanischen Regierung im Rahmen des Overseas Study Program for Artists. 2011 war sie Stipendiatin der Pola Art Foundation.
