Production Details / Press Releases

“Translations of Whale Songs” is about the desire to be swallowed and to be taken care of by a whale. This desire, for me, comes very close to the desire to never have been born, to be back in mother’s womb. It is about sadness as the leading force to the wish to be swallowed by the biggest mammal on this planet, as well as it is about the comedy and surrealism of this yearning.

Fanny Sorgo was born in Vienna. She studied Scenic Writing and Narrative Film at the UdK Berlin and still lives and works there as a transdisciplinary artist in the field of text-music-performance. Most recently she premiered a libretto at the Deutsche Oper Berlin in April 2019, and her play “Der himmelblaue Herr” in Luxembourg in July 2019.
