„The Blanket Dance“ ist ein Trio von und mit den Berliner Tänzerchoreografen Jefta Van Dinther und Frédéric Gies in Zusammenarbeit mit DD Dorvillier aus New York. Im Mittelpunkt ihrer choreografischen Recherche steht die nonverbale Macht der Berührung: „Wir erkunden unsere Neugierde an der Berührung und gehen der Frage nach, wie die Form selbst Inhalt sein kann. Wir testen wie Berührung Reibung und Klang erzeugt, wie Unbelebtes durch Berührung belebt wird, alltägliche Objekte umcodiert werden. Wir beobachten wie Berührung Bewegung produziert und welche Bedeutungen dadurch entstehen. Resultat sind Bilder und Situationen voller Sinn und Nonsense sowie gutes und schlechtes Benehmen in der der Berührung.

"Wir haben diesen Tanz gemacht, damit er von euch gesehen wird. Nichts bleibt unberührt, wenn wir unsere Runden an der Peripherie des Raumes drehen. Die Lichter, unsere Körper, der Sound, ihr, die Objekte, alles beeinflusst sich gegenseitig. The Blanket Dance spricht eine wuchernde Neugierde an der Berührung und der Frage an, wie die Form selbst Inhalt sein kann. Wir beobachten, wie die Berührung Bewegung produziert und wie diese Bewegung unerwartete Affinitäten, Bilder und Bedeutungen offenlegt. Die Berührung in The Blanket Dance benimmt sich gut und dann auch wieder daneben, indem sie Sinn und Nonsens hervorbringt. Wir erleben mit, wie sie das Unbelebte belebt und das noch so Konkrete zu etwas ungeheuer Nachgiebigem werden lässt."

Frédéric Gies, born in France in 1973, lives and works in Berlin. After studying ballet and contemporary dance, he worked with various French choreographers, before moving to Berlin in 2004. He is co-initiator of the collective Praticable. He creates his pieces alone or in collaboration with other artists (Alice Chauchat, Frédéric de Carlo, Jefta van Dinther, DD Dorvillier, Manuel Pelmus, Bruno Pocheron, Isabelle Schad and Odile Seitz). He also keeps on dancing in pieces of other choreographers (Jefta van Dinther, Antonja Livingstone, Petra Sabisch, Isabelle Schad). He is regularly invited to teach in different contexts (dance BA in HZT in Berlin, dance BA and MA of choreography in Stockholm, amongst others). Deep researches on the bodily origins of movement, constitute the soil of his most recent work, that focuses on the political implications of choreographic writing. DD Dorvillier is a choreogrpaher, teacher, and dancer from New York. Mit ihrer company human future dance corps produzierte sie zahlreiche Arbeiten, die bei internationalen Festivals und Theatern gezeigt wurden, u.a. bei Kaaitheater, ImPulsTanz, STUK, und Hebbel am Ufer, and DeSingel. 2008 war DD Dorvillier Mentorin im Rahmen des DanceWeb Europe Scholarship Programms. Her work, Choreography a Prologue for the Apocalypse of Understanding, Get Ready! was presented at Halle G by ImPulsTanz this past summer. In ihren letzten Projekten arbeitete sie mit Anne Juren und Annie Dorsen, (Pièce Sans Paroles), Jennifer Monson (RMW(A)&RMW), Deufert + Plischke (Anarchiv #2: second hand). 2003 erhielt sie zwei Bessie Awards (Choreografie und Soundscore) für ihr Quartett Dressed For Floating, ebenso 2010 für ihre Performance in Parades & Changes, Replays, einer Wiederaufnahme der Scores aus Anna Halprins Parades & Changes (1965). DD Dorvillier arbeitet regelmäßig mit der Komponistin Zeena Parkins, und dem Lichtdesigner Thomas Dunnvas. 2007 erhielt sie das Foundation for Contemporary Arts Fellowship und 2000 das New York Foundation for the Arts Choreography Fellowship.

Jefta van Dinther (SE/NL) is a choreographer and dancer working between Amsterdam, Stockholm and Berlin. He grew up in Sweden, whereafter he moved to the Netherlands and graduated from the Amsterdam School of the Arts (MTD) in 2003. Jefta makes dance performances, both alone and in collaboration with other artists. His own works include The Blanket Dance (2011), which was made in collaboration with Frederic Gies and DD Dorvillier. His previous performance Kneeding - a choreography for three men - premiered in Amsterdam in 2010. In 2009 he made the quintet The Way Things Go - a slowly moving sculpture of cause and effect. Together with Mette Ingvartsen he created the performance IT’S IN THE AIR. In collaboration with Bojana Cvejic, Mette Ingvartsen, Sandra Iche and Jan Ritsema (COCOs) he made the performance Breeding, Brains and Beauty. Apart from dancing in his own performances Jefta also performs in the works of others. He is currently still working and touring with performances by Mette Ingvartsen, Xavier Le Roy and Ivana Muller. He has been engaged as a performer with various other choreographers including Frederic Gies, Keren Levi, Leine/Roebana, Pere Faura, Carolien Hermans, Martin Butler and Inari Salmivaara. He recently started teaching in choreography, sharing his methods of work and practices. During 2008/2009 he was one of the participants in the project 6 Months 1 Location (6M1L), an experiment in education, production and research at the choreographic centre of Montpellier. Together with the other participants of 6M1L he co-curated In- Presentable Festival 2009 in Madrid. He is currently working on a new project together with lighting designer Minna Tiikkainen that will premiere in the spring of 2012.
