WILHELM GROENER

A.E. Anatomie.Evolution.Anfang.Ende. …

Tieranatomisches Theater

Production Details / Press Releases

In a situation between merry-go-round, arena, petri dish and dissecting table, the performance A.E. circumscribes scenarios of origin and visions of progress.

The auditorium of the Veterinary Anatomy Theater (Tieranatomisches Theater) connects such evolutionary and technologic questions with the historical context of anatomical and metaphorical ‘dismembering’. Dissecting gazes and the accompanying constructions of ‚self and other’ are to undergo critical revisions by the means of dance, sound and language.

The spectators become witnesses to the performers’ anatomical probing and movement explorations. Together they create spaces of resonance for past, present and future bodies. Actions and movements oscillate between natural and artificial codedness – open towards manyfold interpretations and points of view.

A.E. All. Eventually. …

WILHELM GROENER: Artist Mariola Groener and dancer Günther Wilhelm have been joining their names and arts under the WILHELM GROENER label since 2001. After that he moved to Europe, initially Berlin and has collaborated with choreographers such as Peter Pleyer. Currently he undertakes the Exerce Master of Choreography programme at the Institut Choréographique International in Montpellier, France. In his own choreografic work he is motivated by a strong desire to dance and a willing sense of social and political responsibility. In this way his work asks: what’s dance got to do with it?

She is the founder and artistic director of ‚Are You Kid-Ing’ Dance Festival in Falun. As a dancer and performer she tours her own work as well as collaborates with choreographers such as Rosalind Crisp, Jefta van Dinther, Heidi Vierthaler and Canan Erek.

Rudi Fischerlehner lives in Berlin and plays drums in various different musical projects that fall between improvised and experimental music, jazz and post-rock. He also composes and produces music for bands, films and performances. Among his most active projects are the percussion solo project 15 8 SLUM, the duo Xenofox with Olaf Rupp and the trio Ohlmeier / Khroustaliov / Fischerlehner.

Mariola Groener, born in Poland, grew up in Munich. She studied communication design; artistic photography, film & AV-media in Berlin and Essen/Folkwang University of Arts. She was co-founder of the project and exhibition space Forever and a Day Büro, was awarded the photography-competition ‘Das große stille Bild’ and received a.o. the Berlin choreography scholarship which enabled her to spend working time with Anna Halprin (SF/USA). In addition to her position as co-director of WILHELM GROENER, she is an artist exhibiting her works at home and abroad.

Aya Toraiwa, born in Japan, graduated in Moving Image at the University of Brighton, studied dance with David Zambrano. As dancer and performer based in Berlin, she most recently collaborated with Judith Sanchez Ruiz and DOT504. Her choreographic works have been presented in festivals and platforms such as Gdansk Dance Festival (Poland), WAM Festival (Italy), OT301 (Netherlands), Fukuoka Dance Fringe Festival (Japan). Her film/video works have been presented in international festivals like WNDX Festival of Moving Image (Winnipeg, Canada), Paris Festival for Different and Experimental Cinema.

Günther Wilhelm, born in Munich, studied Butoh, classical and modern dance in Munich and Berlin and graduated from the Amsterdamse Hogeschool voor de Kunsten/MA Choreography. Before he and M. Groener kicked off the label WILHELM GROENER, he was a longtime member of VA Wölf’s NEUER TANZ and worked a.o. with Dump Type and Anna Huber.
