»In this piece we subject words to the rules of movement composition and explore the potential of the word as a body, taking into account not only its meaning, but also its sound plasticity and the relationship to voice, breathing, rhythm and musicality. We place ourselves in the moment when the word repeated loses its meaning and within the possibility of degeneration and transformation, where other words emerge. Here, we are able to observe how our minds work – in the chaos of sound textures there is always a logical connection to something recognizable. In this way, we free ourselves from semantic and syntax determinism, rearrange the hierarchy of word, voice, movement and gesture, and aspire to new constellations of meaning that can reflect the complexity of the human experience.«
Sofia Dias & Vítor Roriz
Sofia Dias (who graduated from the National Conservatory of Dance in Lisbon) and Vítor Roriz (who graduated in Sports and Physical Education at Porto University), are independent choreographers and performers who have been collaborating since 2006 in the research and conception of nine dance works that have been presented in Portugal, Spain, Germany, France, Switzerland, Romania and Belgium. Sofia Dias & Vítor Roriz have been teaching improvisation and movement research workshops to professionals and non-professionals from the field of performing arts.
