AMAZONIA 2040

Tanz im August | HAU Hebbel am Ufer (HAU1)

Production Details / Press Releases

What will be the state of the Amazon rainforest in 20 years? The project AMAZONIA 2040 by Colombian choreographer Martha Hincapié Charry, of indigenous origin, explores the expression and resistance of concepts such as home, habitat and inhabitants in times of climate change, activism and disappearance of biodiversity. How do political landscapes influence our relationship with nature? What can we learn from ancestral cultures to renew our relationship with Planet Earth?
AMAZONIA 2040 addresses these questions in a personal way.

Presented by Martha Hincapié Charry in the frame of Plataforma Berlin 2020.

Plataforma Berlin analyses the current political, ecological and social situation in the Ibero-American region and makes cross references to climate change and activism. An intercontinental and interdisciplinary meeting brings together BIPOC artists, indigenous leaders, activists and cultural workers. This year a reduced version is being held in which dance/performances and documentaries will open a dialogue and provide a vision of ancient and futuristic cultures. Plataforma continues to reflect on the effects of decolonization processes on the body, as well as on the forms of resistance that artists have developed in the context of migration to Berlin or as part of a local utopia.

Martha Hincapié Charry, Colombian BIPOC artist, choreographer, dancer-performer, researcher and dance facilitator based in Berlin. Pina Bausch Fellow 2019 recipient. Martha studied Dance in her home country and finished her studies in Dancetheatre and SoloDance at the Folkwang Hochschule Essen, Germany, under the guidance of Pina Bausch.
