Production Details / Press Releases

“Behind closed doors” is a performative reflection on the current state of democracy, questioning the idea around secret agreements made by governments, organisations and people with power. Is information hidden in order to protect, to mislead, or for other reasons? How does it affect us and how does it affect what we call democracy?

Martijn Dirk Joling was born in The Netherlands and studied first creative and cultural performance at the ROC Amsterdam Dance Academy in 2009, and graduated with a BA of Modern Theatre Dance from Amsterdam University of the Arts in 2014. Martijn has worked as a dancer with Dance Company Nanine Linning /Theater Heidelberg, State Theatre Braunschweig and Dancelab Berlin a.o. Lately, he has become more and more interested in creating own work, and in 2012 he won the third prize at the ADAE Dance and Performing Arts Choreography Competition in Madrid with the duet “Iris 2.0”.

Amy Pender was born in England, but grew up in Norway. She graduated with her BA of Modern Theatre dance from Amsterdam University of the Arts in 2014. During her last year of school, she was an apprentice with the Icelandic Dance Company. As a dancer she has a.o. worked with choreographers and companies such as Spitfire Dance Company (CZ), Cecilia Moisio (NL/FIN), Liat Waysboort (NL/IL), and most recently Blenard Azizaj (DE/AL).
