BOMBYX MORI

Production Details / Press Releases

Cascades of black fabric wave across the stage, forming short-lived whirls, wings, mythical creatures. In “BOMBYX MORI” Ola Maciejewska takes her inspiration from the in uential avant-gardist Loïe Fuller. She transforms the spectacular costume from the “Serpentine Dance,” in which Fuller draped an endlessly long width of material around her body, into a choreography for three dancers. In doing so the choreographer reveals the critical potential of dancing dresses: her dancers become hybrids of body and object, activity and passivity, human and non-human.

Born in Poland currently based in Paris, Ola Maciejewska is a choreographer and dancer with a strong interdisciplinary practice. In 2011 she created solo performance “LOIE FULLER: Research” that has been presented at Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Serralves, La Biennale de Lyon, Museo Reina Sofía in Madrid, Centre Pompidou in Malaga and Bruxelles to name just few, which also served as a departure point for “BOMBXY MORI” (2015). In 2016 until 2018 she became associate artist at Centre chorégraphique national de Caen in Normandie. Her new work “DANCE CONCERT” had its premiere at National Taichung Theatre in Taiwan and in the fall of 2018 will be presented at Centre Pompidou in the frame of Festival d’Automne in France.
