D.R.A.G. Dingus. Realities. Android-Animal. Group.
D.R.A.G. is a 4-part performance evening. The single letters of the title refer to separate thematically fields, which reflect the transformations and expansions of human realities and its relations to the structures surrounding them. Together they form a texture of installative, performative, real and imaginary spaces.
Here, the audience initially discovers the first part D. (Dingus)—a performative situation with a thing, that focuses on the exploration of subject and object relations.
The second part R. (Realities) is directly connected. It is a solo performance that unites several layers of reality in one.
For the next two parts the audience moves to another space.
The third part A. (Android-Animal) is an encounter with five dancers on a mirror surface; their movement language is an exploration on the borders of the human.
Finally, in the fourth part G. (Group) the performers move in establishing a seemingly floating and unified—or perhaps remotely controlled—community.
As a kind of a boundary-crossing laboratory, D.R.A.G. mirrors a kaleidoscopic sense of the self and the world; dazzling, manifold and volatile.
A brave new world?
WILHELM GROENER: Artist Mariola Groener and dancer Günther Wilhelm have been joining their names and arts under the WILHELM GROENER label since 2001. Their interdisciplinary approach generates a performative- choreographic oeuvre, which unfolds between stage performances, site- specific works, lecture, and exhibitions. So far WILHELM GROENER’s oeuvre covers 20 stage works, numerous stations of their ongoing performance project “33 SKIZZEN”, several video works, art editions and three publications. Oliver Connew lives in Berlin as a dancer and choreographer. He studied classical ballet and contemporary dance at the New Zealand School of Dance and at Unitec University of Technology. Oliver has collaborated with choreographers such as Peter Pleyer and Julian Weber. In his own work he research and combines dance with a willing sense of political responsibility. Connew’s last choreographic work, “Things That Move Me”, was presented at Dock 11 Theater in 2017.
Daniella Eriksson, born in Sweden, studied dance performance at DOCH, the University of Dance and Circus in Stockholm. Her first solo performance “Ranunculus” was twice awarded and shown at different venues and festivals in Europe. She is the founder and artistic director of “Are You Kid-Ing” Dance Festival in Falun. As a dancer she has collaborated with Rosalind Crisp, Jefta van Dinther, Heidi Vierthaler and Canan Erek.
Mariola Groener, born in Poland, grew up in Munich. She studied communication design; artistic photography, film & AV-media in Berlin and Essen/Folkwang University of Arts. She was co-founder of the project and exhibition space Forever and a Day Büro, was awarded the photography-competition “Das große stille Bild” and received a.o. the Berlin choreography scholarship which enabled her to spend working time with Anna Halprin (SF/USA). In addition to her position as co-director of WILHELM GROENER, she is an artist exhibiting her works at home and abroad.
Przemek Kamiński, born in Poland, is a performer and choreographer. He studied at the HZT Inter- University Centre for Dance Berlin and received various international scholarships. He has collaborated a.o. with Isabelle Schad, Juan Dominguez, Nicole Seiler, Julia Rodriguez, Julian Weber. His own choreographic works were recently presented in Nowy Teatr in Warsaw, Art Stations Foundation in Poznań, Museum of Art in Łódź, Kunsthalle Zurich, Tanztage Festival at Sophiensaele in Berlin, Polish Institute in Berlin, during Malta Festival.
Maxwell McCarthy is an American performer and performance maker, based in Berlin. Since graduating from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2008, he has performed and collaborated with choreographers, theater makers, and visual artists including Colette Sadler, Alfredo Zinola, Stephan Herwig, Miet Warlop, Aernout Mik, Anna Konjetzky, and Tino Sehgal, as well as creating and performing his own work.
Olivia McGregor, born in New Zealand, graduated from the New Zealand School of Dance and worked for two years with the Footnote Dance Company before moving to Europe. With various choreographers and artists she creates site-specific performances, stage productions, films and installations. Her artistic work is dedicated to exploring environments and constructions through the materiality of sound and objects, the interplay of body and space.
Michelle Moura, born in Brazil, is a performer and choreographer. She studied at Essais/CNDC d’Angers and DAS Choreography. She has collaborated as a performer with Vincent Dupont, Groupe Entorse and was a founding member of the Brazilian artists community “Couve-Flor Minicomunidade Artística Mundial”. Her own creations “Cavalo”, “Fole” and “Blink”, have been performed at international dance and performing arts festivals and venues in South America and Europe including Panorama Festival and Hebbel am Ufer.
Günther Wilhelm, born in Munich, studied Butoh, classical and modern dance in Munich and Berlin and graduated from the Amsterdamse Hogeschool voor de Kunsten/MA Choreography. Before he and M. Groener kicked off the label WILHELM GROENER, he was a longtime member of VA Wölf’s NEUER TANZ and worked a.o. with Dump Type and Anna Huber. He received the scholarship of Stiftung Kulturfonds, Künstlerhaus Lukas Ahrenshoop and the Berlin dance and choreography.
