Four Non Blondes

Sophiensæle

Production Details / Press Releases

Blonde hair originated around 11,000 years ago as a genetic mutation in northern Europe. Only two percent of people are naturally blonde. A relatively rare phenomenon—and therefore desirable for some. Blonde hair is associated with youth, attractiveness and purity and a wide variety of statements are made with blonde hair: social advancement or rebellion and independence. At the same time, being blonde has become a symbol of whiteness. With a mixed cast of “non-blondes”, Four Non Blondes explores the many nuances of blondeness, incorporating the cultural history of blonde hair and the personal experiences of the performers.

Christoph Winkler is one of Germany’s most distinguished and versatile choreographers. His work covers a wide spectrum of formats and ranges from very personal to political themes. Since 1996, he has created more than 90 dance pieces as a freelance artist. In 2024, Das Wahre Gesicht won the German theater prize DER FAUST in the category “Best Choreography”. In 2016, one of his productions received this prize again; Aloalii Tapu was awarded “Best Dancer” for the solo Urban Soul Café. In 2020, Christoph Winkler was awarded a Tabori Prize, and in May 2022 he received the German Dance Award.
