Fre!heit
What is freedom? And what is freedom demanding from us? Is freedom even a task? Inspired by a selection of moments, dialogues and personnal experience, David Brandstätter portrays his vision of freedom, in a continuing dialog between thoughts, space and body. Balancing, shifting between movement, text, sound and visual installation, he describes being free as a path of constant questioning, of critical negotiations with oneself and of liberating ones imagination.

David Brandstätter came from juggling and unicycling to dance when he started his study of choreography in EDDC in Arnhem in 2001.Together with Malgven Gerbes, they founded s h i f t s – art in movement. The name of this group founded in 2007 defines its profile: Under the foundation of s h i f t s lays the core conviction that constant changes of perspective, shifting balance, the modification of starting positions and external parameters are all conditions essential to a serious and ongoing examination of the art practices to which they have committed themselves.

s h i f t s – art in movement presented their work in Berlin in: Sophiensaele, Tanzfabrik, Uferstudios, Podewil, Dock 11, Labor Gras. Nationally and internationally among others in: fabrik Potsdam, Kunstfest Weimar, Tanz Heilbronn, DANCE München, Tanzhaus NRW, Muffatwerk München, Le Phare – CCN du Havre, Le Triangle de Rennes, Les Hivernales d’Avignon, Les Rencontres Chorégraphiques Internationales de Seine-Saint-Denis, Temps d’Images in Cluj, Seoul Performing Arts Festival, Shanghai Grand Theatre. s h i f t s teaches parallely in Dance and Choreographic Departments in diverse universities and creates numerous choreographic collectivity projects.
