funky serenade

NAH DRAN | ada Studio in den Uferstudios

Production Details / Press Releases

In “funky serenade” the dancer, the double bass (player) and the pre-recorded tape music follow, parallelly and independently from one another, their own interests and structures within the very stringent corset of a 17-16th bar marked by an ongoing metronome. Playing between the constraint of being locked in this strong rhythmic corset and the pleasure that might be found in repetitions and/or linear developments, the two bodies of the performers shape together a complex and unpredictable counterpoint, both visual and sonorous, reflecting on the old question of difference and repetition.

Jung Sun Kim works as a dancer and choreographer in Seoul and Germany in various contexts such as theatre/stage, education and in independent art projects. She has been living in Berlin since 2007 and completed her Master in Choreography at HZT Berlin with the dance piece “EX_IST” in 2016. As a dancer she worked with Ahn Eun Me Company and Canan Erek and has collaborated with Matthias Erian (Korean National Contemporary Dance Company), Jaelee Kim (MMCA in Seoul), Kollektive äöü (LTT Tübingen and Cologne), Oper Dynamo West_Janina Janke (Berlin) and Clara Gervais (buehnendautenheims). At the moment she is working on past futures research with the collective äöü and is interested in the body as individual and mass between Korean group movement and group movement in the DDR.

Composer and double bass-player Clara Gervais studied music in Marseille, San Sebastian and Basel, she now lives and works in Berlin. Her activities as a performer cover a large spectre of musical styles (a.o. with La Cetra Baroque Orchester Basel, the trio La Banda Ki and the Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop Berlin). Her compositional work mirrors her strong interest for experimental Forms and innovative scenical and performative aspects of contemporary Musiktheater, through a recurrent questioning of the borders between Speech and Music. She is the musical director of the ensemble buehnendautenheims.
