JUCK is a practice on its own, where the members share diverse experiences on the interlocking oppressions due to race, gender and/or sexuality with each other, putting them in the same space and turning them in to a thrust. The thrust spans from individuality into a unit that is self supporting, where the group bears each other. The thrust flips and turns, merges and bends. It is under control and has taken control.
By bringing the gaze into awareness JUCK challenges traditional conventions on the relationship between performer and audience. In a staged space where power structures are fluctuating, opportunities for mutual encounters are created. The spectators ask themselves: from what position do I participate? Who is holding power in this space?
The show has been touring for five years and it continues to pose the question to the dancers: how do one examine femininity and feminized bodies in relationship to the audience and one another?
JUCK was initiated in 2012 and has since then been touring theatres, claiming public spaces and social contexts with their practice of intertwining activism and stage performance. The group was established in 2013 when they created the short film JUCK that became a viral success on Youtube. So far they produced two full length pieces together, latest the piece JUCK <3 LILITH where they explore their relationship to the mythical archetype Lilith. The short-film documentary JUCK -Thrust, that premiered in 2018 at The Berlinale, is still touring film-festivals around the world and has received several prizes worldwide.
