Production Details / Press Releases
In 1998 Thomas Plischke worked on his solo dance “Fleur” as part of his final studies. At the same time Kattrin Deufert was writing a fictional diary entitled “Mythos Europa” alongside her dissertation at the Free University of Berlin. Today the twin artists deufert&plischke are themselves supervising art students in their final seminar. The roles have been exchanged for “Niemandszeit”. The students are the mentors for the “revival” and will be melting the two works into one. Together with the audience they will be helping to reweave the movements with the text every time.
Kattrin Deufert and Thomas Plischke aka artistwin deufert&plischke live and work in Berlin. Since 2001 they have produced a large number of theater projects in collaboration, works that deal with the situations of artistic production and the complex dynamics embedded in artistic processes. The artistwin’s artistic language transgresses the frame of theater and dance and focuses on proximity, individual partaking and the social life within the artistic realm. In their recent work they create environments that offset the everyday by integrating and processing it extensively into the artwork, environments that invite to spend time. Together with friends and colleagues from art and theory they developed a.o. the Anarchiv series (2008 a.o. Kaaitheater Brussels, Kampnagel Hamburg, Tanzquartier Wien, PACT Zollverein Essen), the Emergence Rooms (2010 a.o. Museum of Modern Art MuMoK Vienna, Superbodies Triennial Hasselt, Würtembergischer Kunstverein Stuttgart) and the Entropic Institute (2012 a.o. Tanzfabrik Berlin, Sofia Arsenal Museum of Contemporary Art SAMCA, Fridge Sofia). Besides their own artistic projects they also work as mentors and curators. deufert&plischke teach their practice of Reformulation at art schools and universities. Since 2010 they are professors at the BA course of the Inter University Center for Dance (HZT) in Berlin.
