How are gender and sexual identities reproduced through everyday behaviours? And where does this reproduction fail? In her solo work, choreographer Alexandra Bachzetsis pushes gender performances to their post-queer limits by drawing on a variety of artists and bodily practices, from the 1960s works of the American choreographer Trisha Brown, via the German photographer Marianne Wex, to the oriental dances of drag queens, fitness workouts, Western yoga practices, and the poses of football and porn.
Alexandra Bachzetsis is a multiple award-winning choreographer and visual artist based in Zurich. She works in Athen and Zurich. Since 2001, she has created over 24 pieces. Her practice unfolds at the intersection of dance, performance, the visual arts and theatre, generating a conflation of the spaces in which the body can manifest as an artistic and critical apparatus. This fundamentally interdisciplinary approach also has its foundations in her educational background, which included studies in the Performance Education Program of the STUK arts centre in Leuven, and at Das Arts in Amsterdam.
