Réquiem X

URBAN FEMINISM Strike a Rock | Tanz im August | HAU Hebbel am Ufer (HAU3)

Production Details / Press Releases

A tribute to the dark goddesses, whose characters and power have been turned into something fearful, scary and evil in the history. Tonight we want to remember that power and strength and birth a new way of existing. Because from all the times you tried to bury us, this requiem shall be the last one, for you to realize…that we are (the) seeds.

For the third and final year in the ongoing project URBAN FEMINISM, the ten young Berlin-based urban dance-makers selected by Tanz im August present three explosive collaborations at HAU3. Following a series of intensive workshops and mentored rehearsals focusing on lighting design and dance dramaturgy, the female artists merge hip hop, breaking, popping, krump and house among others in a unique evening that marks the grande finale of the programme.

Rocío Becerra is specialised in hip hop, popping, locking and house styles as well as jazz and contemporary dance. She trained in different programmes in Spain, France, Germany and China. She has worked with Kadir ‘Amigo’ Memis and Joy Alpuerto Ritter and was part of the dance ensemble for the Tollywood film “Iddarammayilatho” and the TV series Babylon Berlin. She teaches on professional dance courses in Berlin at Motions Tanz & Bewegung, Seneca Intensive and Dart Studio.

Nicole Adriana is a creative & movement director and founder of formula fifteen, a collective of creative individuals. Besides her music and cultural studies, Nicole has worked internationally in opera, music videos, theatre, battles and commercials. Her style is built on a diverse dance background, focusing mainly on waacking and krump. As part of the improvisational collective The Way she performed in the award-winning short film “ODYSSEY WITHIN”. She works as a director and producer on her own projects.

Alessia D’Isanto has a background in contemporary, modern, classical, hip hop, house and acrobatic techniques. She completed the Advanced Dance Program by Sonia Bartuccelli in Berlin in 2018. A co-founder of the multidisciplinary collective Blueblood, she has performed for and collaborated with the fields of fashion, music, film and theatre. Since 2020 she has been part of the Oxymoron Dance Company with whom she performed at Drum Klub. In her own work she focuses on the question: “How can we transcend the harsh limits of language that shape our reality?”

Johanna Adelsberger practices illusionary dance forms and clinical psychology. Having worked as a dancer internationally, she is currently focusing her research on arm movements. With her former collective ZizaAkad, she created the piece “Risus”, co-produced by SOPHIENSÆLE and performed at Ufa Fabrik and Berghain. They were nominated for the Worpswerde Art Prize, and in 2021, Johanna Adelsberger received a dance research and work grant from the Senate Department for Culture and Europe for her project “Algorythmic”. She is an organiser of the international festival and bgirl battle Queen 16 that seeks more visibility for females* in the hip hop community.
