Shai Faran

Sensitive Chaos

Production Details / Press Releases

Together with the music composed by Yehezkel Raz, the space and light design by Vera Pulido and the choreography by Shai Faran, this dance piece blends the senses and the perception of the space and invites the spectators to get absorbed in an experience rather than witness it from outside. Using layers of sounds, voices, materials and textures, the work is hinting that there is more in our world than meets the eye and that letting those hidden layers come to life through our human body can be a tool for questioning our perception of reality.

„Sensitive Chaos“ is a dance piece inspired and informed by the extensive research of the scientist Theodor Schwenk, who exposed through his work the detailed beauty that is being expressed through movement in all the materials around us as well as the unseen forces that are part of what can be called the esoteric and mysterious layers of our world.

Shai Faran is an Israeli dancer, teacher and choreographer, based in Europe. After studying in the dance department at the Misgav High School, she continued her studies at the Haifa dance workshop for dancers and choreographers. In Israel, she danced for the Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company II, the Sigma Ensemble and the Dafi Altabab Dance Group. After studying and working in Israel, she moved to Europe, where she started to deepen her research, practice and methods of teaching and creating. She has worked with different choreographers such as Matej Kejzer, Maya M.Caroll, Zoe Knights, Yuval Pick, Shumpei Nemoto, Maura Morales Alessandro Sciarroni David Hernandez, Martin Kilvady and more and performed around Europe. She created several works which won scholarships from the America- Israel Cultural Foundation, the foundation named after Ehud Manor and the cultural senate of Berlin. In the last few years she has been teaching dance different frames for professional dancers, BA and MA education programs such as Danish National School of Performing Arts, Stockholm Uniarts, La-Manufacture in Lausanne, CCD University for Music and Dance in Cologne and more, in dance companies such as Cullberg Dance Company, Scottish Dance Theater, Corpus in Copenhagen and in open workshops around the world while developing her own work and working as a freelance dance performer, teacher and choreographer.
