Can stereotypes become means of empowerment? Olivia Hyunsin Kim questions the exotification of “the other” within the international dance scene.

OLIVIA HYUNSIN KIM works as a choreographer and performer. She studied Choreography in Honolulu, Falmouth/Dartington and Gießen. Her works evolve around the question of identity, embodiment and memory and have been presented in Europe and Asia.

BALY NGUYEN works as a sound and performance artist. She has worked with Tümay Kilinçel, Rimini Protokoll, Matthias Lilienthal und Damian Rebgetz. Her work is further developed at the Institute of Applied Theatre Studies Gießen. She also works as DJ.

KRISTIN GERWIEN has studied at the State Art University in Visual Arts Stuttgart and the Institute of Applied Theatre Studies. She works interdisciplinary among the fields of costume performance, theatre and music. Birth of Jones is her alter ego in which she performs alone on stage with her electric guitar.

LEA SCHNEIDERMANN studied Applied Theatre Studies and works as light/stage/video designer. Together with Arnita Jaunsubrēna and Kim Willems she develops performance projects under the label Eliza Rescue Team. The work Der Souveräne Mensch was awarded the Jury Prize of the Körber Studio Young Director in 2013.

WICKI BERNHARDT works as a freelancer in the fields of Performance and Music. She studied Music and Movement at the University of Arts in Berlin and the Academy of Music and Dance in Jerusalem. Since October 2013 she studies Applied Theater in Gießen. She operates in various artistic groups.

Video Documentation

The video documentation is produced on behalf of the Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion. The purpose of this contract is to document productions in the field of contemporary dance in Berlin. The master recordings are archived by the University Library of the Berlin University of Arts.
