In «She’s Constructing the Exit Signs (Hope & Delusion)» Liina Magnea addresses the emotional function of the musical and musical film and how it can offer itself as a coping strategy in hopeless times. The musical asylum penetrates reality, creating a delusional construction of a fairytale world, while the actual surrounding is sad and gloomy.
The alternative reality being created helps the hungry, worn-out protagonist to imagine itself as a character of a fictional narrative where everything is possible – the ultimate escape.
YOUR PAIN IS NOT FOR NOTHING
written and performed by Hjörtur Hjörleifsson and Liina Magnea
Dilettante or genius it’s impossible to tell
Will it grant me access to some transcendental realm Creation or destruction have been unified in bond Eternal flow of energy colliding into one
Miles and miles and miles and miles
And miles of empty space
Infinite possibilities on which he meditates
A vision haunts his dreams at night at day it resonates His blessing are a curse at times
but he cannot escape
Introspective, all connected,
Built to last but still he wrecked it Slow then hectic, unexpected
A bit eclectic, yet protected
A thousand hackers tried to knack it But he made sure to double check it He always made sure to double check it.
Erect your monument on the grounds you did inherit Select your fate, the future’s made for us to share it Reject the government for its bound to turn to dust Eject the tape, erase the trace, it’s up to us
Your pain is not for nothing if you just put it in to context With the way you’re juxtaposed against the final backdrop
