Production Details / Press Releases
By combining contemporary dance with ritual chanting, reggaeton and perreo, Maque Pereyra creates a decolonial dance practice that shatters conventional notions of sexuality and spirituality. Solar Threshold is an indigenous- futuristic performance that seeks to reconcile the differences and intersections of seemingly opposing rhythms and movements; in order to overcome binaries and make space for the new.
MAQUE PEREYRA studied Psychology in La Paz, Bolivia and graduated in the MA Solo Dance Authorship at HZT Berlin.
A temple of fire
A temple of sounds
Hollow the shade of the
voice in the room.
Tender as a fucking dragon.
(Me dijiste que había tiempo)
Past, present, future.
And again and again.
I’m sure you was missing me
(me extrañaste como fui)
Past, present, future.
Circular as the way you move your culo.
Endless, fuego.
Now, can we share our power in a subtle way?
THIS PIECE BEGINS WITH THE ROOTS.
Sacrum, uterus, perineum.
Colonialism. The installation of fear. Shake the fear.
Solar, solar plexus, heart, blood flowing and transforming movement into life.
Threshold, migrant, in between worlds, long-lasting shapeshift.
What does spiritual activism, perreo, de/colonialism and vibration have in common?
