Production Details / Press Releases

Scandal is an emotion, art is a feeling.
Scandal is a crisis, art memorizes the crisis.
Scandal is a finance platform, art is a market.
Scandal is an idea; art is the essence of a hidden idea.
Scandal is a language, art is a value.
Scandal is an artistic process, art is politics.
Scandal is a subject of art, art is a scandalous object.
Scandal abuses the body; art is an attempt of immortality.
Scandal in contemporary art is a mechanics of sensations.
WITHOUT SCANDAL THERE IS NO ART HISTORY

THE ARCHITECTS is a performative project, based on the reflection on the art and crisis related to the identity. It looks into the link between art market, art scandals, public perception and reaction on different levels. The private belongings of laid off bankers are the basis of this choreographic duet. A humoristic take on the art world and its absurd geopolitical manifestations.

YOUNESS ATBANE lives and works between Casablanca and Berlin. His artistic interest is centered on a critical and burlesque relationship to the field of art, its actors and its geopolitics, opening his research towards the possible interconnection between art disciplines. In 2008, Youness took part in the program EX E.R.CE08 at the Centre Choréographique National de Montpelier. He obtained a master´s degree in art and museology at the University of Nice in 2010. Youness was working with many international artists like Khalid Benghrib, Jean-Marc Mattos, Juan Domingues, Xavier Le Roy, Rochus Aust, Fawzi Benssidi, etc.. He has exhibited his installations and presented his performances at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Rome, The Talmart Gallery in Paris, Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris, Ostrale Dressen, the Museum of Contemporary Art Mohammed VI in Rabat, Headland Center for the Arts in San Francisco, the Marrakech Biennale and at the Mass Moca Museum.

YOUNESS ABOULAKOUL was born in Casablanca and lives and works in Paris. Youness began dancing Hip-Hop at the cultural complex Moulay Rachid as he was seven years old. Then, he studied ballet and Moroccan folk dances at the art conservatory. At the age of 16, he met the choreographer Khalid Benghrib and continued working with him until today. Youness worked simultaneously for many different dance companies like Konica THTR, Incripacion and Plan-K and he collaborated with the choreographers Olivier Dubois, Radhouane Elmeddeb, Christian Rizzo and Bernardo Montet. Youness is also a composer and sound designer, fascinated by the electronic music atmosphere and by the depth of the Moroccan music. He combines these two sources of inspiration to develop his own sound work.
