URBAN FEMINISM Strike a Rock | Tanz im August | HAU Hebbel am Ufer (HAU3)

Production Details / Press Releases

“to be found” addresses the importance of cooperation and the imagination of a hopeful activism. In line with our belief in the goodness of humankind, we negotiate different perspectives and voices in a social and political movements. What do we need to move forward together and create space for an honest dialogue? Let’s put our thoughts into action and solve the problems together, which can’t be solved alone. Inspired by the spirit of house dance and the cypher culture we found our common language by merging different types of movement and techniques.

For the third and final year in the ongoing project URBAN FEMINISM, the ten young Berlin-based urban dance-makers selected by Tanz im August present three explosive collaborations at HAU3. Following a series of intensive workshops and mentored rehearsals focusing on lighting design and dance dramaturgy, the female artists merge hip hop, breaking, popping, krump and house among others in a unique evening that marks the grande finale of the programme.

Tatjana Mahlke is a freelance dancer, choreographer and teacher from Berlin, who first discovered her passion for dance through hip hop culture and later for contemporary theatre. Thanks to a scholarship, Tatjana graduated from the higher technical school for contemporary and urban stage dance in Zurich in 2019. She reflects on social discourses by approaching dance through community-building dance forms, such as hip hop, house or breaking in a contemporary stage context. With her collective Zookunft.Project, she develops collaborative projects whose work focuses on interdisciplinarity and sustainable implementation.

Elina Kim received dance training in Russia and Switzerland, especially in acrobatic rock’n’roll, rhythmic gymnastics, urban dance forms and classical ballet. Until today Elina is a member of Les Papillons. She creates dance works alongside artists like Marula Eugster from Nouveau Cirque Rigolo and participates in international dance competitions. She has choreographed for various events including Tini Tinou, a festival in Cambodia. In 2020 she took part in her first production with Panorama Dance Theater and has been working as a freelancer since. She is a member of the urban Company MEK and in 2023 Elina Kim will tour internationally with their latest piece “Father Politics”.
