Ein internationales Kooperationsprojekt der Tanzcompagnie Rubato mit der chinesischen Tänzer/Choreografin Li Ling Xi und dem britischen bildenden Künstler Jonathan Baldock

Two Figures in a Landscape wurde während einer Residenz der Tanzcompagnie Rubato (Jutta Hell und Dieter Baumann) von Dezember 2012 bis März 2013 in Shanghai als work in progress entwickelt. In Berlin zeigt Rubato jetzt die Premiere dieses Stückes im Rahmen eines Doppelprogramms.

Two Figures in a Landscape ist eine Meditation über lebendige Malerei und bewegte Skulpturen, über den Dialog zwischen bildender Kunst und Tanz. Wo ist die Verbindung? Wie kann diese Kommunikation entstehen?

Ausgangspunkt des Duetts waren die Kostümentwürfe des britischen bildenden Künstlers Jonathan Baldock, gleichfalls Artist in Residence in Shanghai, inspiriert durch so verschiedenartige Bezüge und Einflüsse wie mittelalterliche Mönchskutten, chinesische Opernkostüme oder die Abstraktion der europäischen Moderne. Baldock: “Meine Praxis bezieht sich ständig auf die menschliche Form. Deshalb ist es für mich eine natürliche Weiterentwicklung, lebendige Körper in meine Arbeit zu integrieren.”
Jutta Hell und Dieter Baumann erweitern mit ihrer Choreografie die Materialität der Kostüme und schaffen durch den Tanz einen eigenständigen Klang und Rhythmus, der die Linienführung, Form- und Farbgebung von Baldocks Kostümen in immer wieder neue Wahrnehmungen und Reflektionen transformiert. Es entsteht ein korrespondierender, kreisender Prozess von Werden und Vergehen, dessen Mannigfaltigkeit ästhetischer Formen und Ausdrücke die kontinuierliche Metamorphose persönlicher, politischer und gesellschaftlicher Zustände aufnimmt.

Tanzcompagnie Rubato: Jutta Hell und Dieter Baumann gründeten 1985 die Tanzcompagnie Rubato. Bis heute entwickelten sie 51 abendfüllende Stücke in unterschiedlichsten Künstlerkonstellationen und Kulturen, die auf zahlreichen Tourneen rund um die Welt gezeigt wurden. 1990 – 92 Zusammenarbeit mit Gerhard Bohner. 1992 erhielten sie den Förderpreis für Darstellende Kunst der Akademie der Künste, Berlin. Seit 1995 bis heute kontinuierliche Arbeitsaufenthalte und Koproduktionen in China (Beijing, Guangdong, Hongkong, Shanghai, Shenyang, Yunnan Province). 2004 entwickelten sie in den USA mit sechs amerikanischen TänzerInnen das Stück America! question, das in Atlanta, Boston, Houston, New York und San Francisco gezeigt wurde. Für das Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin entstanden 2005 zwei Auftragswerke: Shanghai Beauty und Eidos_Tao. Das deutsch-chinesische Projekt “Look at me, Iʼm Chinese”, unterstützt von der Kulturstiftung des Bundes, wurde 2010 im Rahmen von Tanz im August in Berlin uraufgeführt. “The Swatch Art Peace Hotel Residency Program” wählte 2012 die Tanzcompagnie Rubato / Hell / Baumann als erste Choreografen / Tänzer zu einer Residenz in Shanghai aus. Die Tanzcompagnie Rubato wird auch 2013 und 2014 durch die Basisförderung des Regierenden Bürgermeisters von Berlin, Senatskanzlei Kulturelle Angelegenheiten, unterstützt.

Jonathan Baldock is a visual artist living and working in London. He has a BA from Winchester School of Art and MFA in painting from the Royal College of Art, London (2005). Jonathan Baldock makes theatrical and darkly humorous objects, installations and paintings, which are often influenced by traditions of folklore, craft and ritual. Baldock’s work is currently on display at the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art (MOCCA) in the exhibition ARE YOU ALRIGHT? New Art From Britain. Recent solo exhibitions include The Blue Epoch, Colloredo-Mansfeldský Palác, AMoYA, Prague (Czech) (2012), Pierrot, Peregrine Program, Chicago (USA) (2011), and The Fool’s Flipside, Cell Projects, London (UK) (2010). His works have been included in group exhibitions such as Condensation, Danielle Arnaud Contemporary, London (2011) and Jonathan Baldock / Karla Black / Morag Keil / Jonanthan Monk, MALLORCA Landings (2011). He has been awarded with an Arts Council England Research Grant, Sichuan Fine Art Institute, Chongqing (China) (2011) and was 2013 awarded the Abbey Fellowship, British School in Rome (Italy). www.jonathan-baldock.com

Li Ling Xi was born in 1975, in Harbin, China. She graduated from the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Art College in 1992, majoring in ballet, classic and folkloric Chinese dance. Ling Xi has worked in the 2nd Artillery Corps Troupe of Chinese PLA and Shanghai Song & Dance Company. Later she took interest in modern dance and joined Jin Xing Modern Dance Company and started her modern dancer career in Shanghai. From 2000 on she has worked and performed with the Jin Xing Modern Dance Company in France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Monaco, Belgium, Korea, Singapore and Taiwan. She performed in the choreographies of Philippe Talard, including “The State of the World” in Luxembourg and “Beyond Borders” in Italy and France. In 2005 she choreographed her first work called “Dialogue”, performed at the Beijing Grassland Art Festival. In 2006 she collaborated with Czech choreographer Barbara Kryslova-Greiner and choreographed her first solo dance performance. In August 2008, she directed and choreographed her first successful international project “Bach and Chinese Dragon” in collaboration with German Alta Ripa Symphony Orchestra, premiered in Hanover Germany, then toured in other cities. She is working in Shanghai as an independent dancer, choreographer and art director, engaging in dance production, seeking the cooperation of artists from different backgrounds and exploring new possibilities of dance expression.
