Production Details / Press Releases

‘Uncharted Property’ employs motion capture technology to reflect upon virtual corporeality and the choreographic potential of digital worlds. Two avatars, each inhabiting a human-sized screen, share the stage with the performer. The movement offers possibilities for discovering a delicate virtual interplay. The dividing line between on-screen and off-screen is blurred, to then only see it emerge again through failed digital embodiment. In front of the audience’s eyes, a space of ambivalence emerges- a space to reflect on how digital worlds transform the understanding of our own physicality.

Aaron Lang (he/him) is a performer, dancer, and choreographer who graduated in 2017 in architecture with a study of how bodies constitute spaces of alternate realities. He graduated from Performact, a two-year contemporary dance training. After working as a student assistant in research projects at TU Berlin while studying sociology, he now is a freelance performance artist based in Berlin. Theoretical and physical research are his source for subtle improvisational techniques. These become a catalyst for imagination, clarification and transformation, negotiating ideosyncrasies of technologies.

tanz:digital is the new online platform for dance and digital media in the German-speaking sphere. It shows what is possible in a world that no longer consists only of physical stages, but also of virtual bodies, dance videos, and set designs. What can be created in the connection between the body and digital technology? To celebrate the launch, researchers, educators, and artists are gathering at HAU – which itself has a research platform for art with digital technology in the form of HAU4.
