Production Details / Press Releases

“Urban RUPTURE” is a work-in-progress that explores the individual’s needs and desires for human connection through exploring the body’s inner landscape of the ‘self’ in relationship to his/her environment, work and relationships. It explores and proposes the question if the urban renaissance movement, urban development and planning, thriving in modern day cities and societies creating a new world order for alienation and isolation? I explore themes of urban despondency, loneliness, isolation and cultural displacement of the self and body in the context of dance movement. In my dance research I explore the use of voice, narrative and dance movement in making these themes transparent. This work aims to explore the basic needs of the human condition to connect and be accepted by others in one’s environment. I am interested in this theme due to my own Multilingual cultural background of being Australian Turkish and Kurdish heritage and from living in different foreign cities away from my home country, has provided me with rich material to work from.
