Production Details / Press Releases

A butterfly cuts deep
Their wings slapping you with judgement
Eat yourself to death, gluttonous piece of shit
The cocoon shows no mercy
You will feel butterfly’s wrath
The wrath of a lifetime of weight
But stop
Come close
Look inside me
Feel inside me
I know this flap, this slap
So I will show you mercy
But will it ever be enough?

Amelia’s work concentrates on embodiment and metamorphoses. She tries to concentrate on sensation and experience believing that through this way you can break down the wall between audience and performer. Instead of watching something the public has truly lived something. One of the main companies she feels is a great example of this kind of experience and who is also one of the main sources of inspiration for Amelia is Motimaru Dance Company. Amelia’s work always has a structure and specific energy connected to the piece, it is not improvisation in fact it is mainly choreographed, however she allows herself enough freedom to still be manipulated by the space, time and energy. This freedom she feels is what feeds the authentic experience of a performer. If something comes, discover what it is for once it’s gone it’s gone and if it comes it is a gift.

Amelia Forrest finished her schooling at The Bejart Ballet School when she was taken into The Baltic Dance Theater. Shortly after she was promoted to soloist she left the company to find a more collaborative, playful and diverse way of working through freelancing. After co-finding the company Amma Dance Theatre in 2015 with Marion Geisler, Amelia realized that she needed to start again from zero and find a methodology to achieve an authentic form of movement to communicate honestly with audiences. Amelia moved to Berlin to embark on a journey into the world of butoh in the western world. Along with studying and researching Amelia is trying to put into practice the new information shared with her by creating and collaborating in Berlin with different artists and with the support of places such as ufaFabrik and Theaterhaus Mitte.
