Opiyo Okach was artistic director of the first Kenyan company for contemporary dance and is one of the pioneers of the second generation of African choreographers. His duet “Border Border Express” with the musician Alejandro Olarte plays in Busia on the border between Kenya and Uganda. Every day, hundreds of traders cross the border on bicycles to transport their goods to the other side.

Opiyo Okach graduated from the Desmond Jones School of Mime and Physical Theater in London. After his return to Kenya in 1995, he turned to the dance and studied extensively with African rites. Okach is known for his subtle improvisations and simple but elegant movements.
