DOWN TO THE BONE

MONSTROUS LANDSCAPES | DOCK 11

Production Details / Press Releases

What happens when one species dies? Vinciane Despret writes in her text that the world dies from every absence. Each time an existence disappears, it is a piece of the universe of sensations that fades away. Every time an existence disappears, something disappears in my world and thus in me. How can this be my physical experience? How can we meet in our matters? How can I meet a death of another existence that is no longer here? Is the meeting in our matter an encounter in its transformations? Is the encounter in our matters an encounter in their disappearances?

The answer to all these questions is LOVE.
Love.
Love will keep us together
Think of me babe, whenever
(…)
I’ll be thinking of you
Look in my heart and let love keep us together.

This concert-performance is filled with love songs for beings who are no longer there, the
passenger pigeon, the okami wolf, the Golden Lion Tamarin and others. Through sound and
voice I will try to be for and with them, to give the vitality of my body and the resonance of my voice to their bodies, of which only traces remain, and their silenced voices.

Agata Siniarska is a Polish-born artist living in Berlin. She works in the field of expanded choreography. She places her practice between how we think about the world and how we move in it. It is a place where somatics and politics intersect – a place where body awareness meets social engagement – between somatic and ecological landscapes, between human and non- human bodies. Her work has been shown in various contexts across Europe. Agata’s current research explores the idea of an Anthropocene museum, multi-species archives in times of war and extinction, and various human and non-human alliances. Agata lives in Berlin’s Friedrichshain district with her dog Foka. She is a big fan of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, which she started learning some time ago and enjoys very much.

rat milk – rumoured to having been among Christopher Columbus’s (better known as Krzysztof Kolumb) most favourite bands of all time, rat milk released their first official studio album „mus lac“ in 1349 as the public image of the Rattus progressively worsened due to the ongoing and rapid spread of the Black Death in Europe. It was not until 1963 that the band released their second studio album „John Fucking Kennedy“ in response to the assassination of the president of the United States of America after what is considered to be the longest artistic hiatus in the history of mankind. After repeatedly disbanding and reforming (as famously after Kurt Cobain’s suicide? in 1994) it is unclear whether or not any of the original rat milk members are active in the band today. Some consistency can be attributed the group since 2005, the year in which work on their third and most controversial studio album „Papamobile” began. Released in late 2006 the album explores the death of Pope John Paul II, commenting on and raising questions about the duties and privileges of a spiritual authority, the afterlife, abortion and women’s rights as a whole. As far as it is known rat milk are active to this day and currently reside in Berlin alongside their approximately 3 and a half million rat cousins.

MONSTROUS LANDSCAPE
Three evenings with many works and artists biting into monstrous realities where hallucinations intermingle with waking life, where human and non-human beings make unknown alliances, where ghosts come and stay and speak aloud…
