for my grandfather Regino
One body is enough, one body makes a difference. The philosopher Santiago Alba Rico says: “A body is worth as much as the time invested in waiting for it, looking at it, taking care of it, paying attention to it”.
And what does choreography demand if not attention to bodies as well as spaces, objects, sounds, words, lights, dreams, shadows, moments? A body is the intuition of a moment, it is a process that, through choreography, attempts to reveal the senstive possibility of the present, an intimate and anonymous present that wants to become poetic and political. Only a body that recognizes the immensity of the present will be enough to make a difference …in the world.
Cuatro X Cuatro it’s a transnational laboratory of artists and creatives that was integrated in 2007. Its members come from different parts of Mexico, Latin America, and Europe, summoned by Shantí Vera. Since 2009 they have developed projects and spaces to think and to be together. Their Thought covers light, sound, color, and matter as states and spaces as distributions of the sensible; they are interested in gravity (the force and metaphor); choreography and the choreographic; the Mexican context and Latin America; the South (not geographically but as a missing territory). They have performed in Mexico and in twenty countrys Europe and Latin America and have received multiple awards, prizes, grants, fellowships, and subsidies. Cuatro X Cuatro is one of the most representative artistic projects in Mexico. Cuatro X Cuatro does not make shows to entertain, it develops spaces and projects to imagine, create encounters and relate to the world.
