Improvisation! In four newly curated duos, four experienced dance improvisers and four musical improvisers explore the shallows, slants and nuances between their disciplines. Individual approaches and vocabularies come together and weave new dialogues. Curated by Meinrad Kneer and Jenny Haack.

Mouafak Aldoabl learned Ballet and modern dance at Enana Dance Theater in his home town of Damascus, Syria and worked with that company until 2013.Over the two years he gained valuable experience and would go on to begin his first dance education at the higher institute of drama and arts, before moving to Berlin and start-ing to focus on his own style.There he worked with choreographers such as Sasha Waltz, Guest and Yoshiko Chuma. During 2017 he finished his second dance education at Balance 1 Dance Academy and subsequently started working with Total brutal Nir de Volff.Recently he has become a new member of the Forward Dance Company, Leipzig

Els Vandeweyer is a Belgian vibraphonist, percussionist, and composer currently living in Berlin. After studying classical percussion in Antwerp and jazz vibraphone in Brussels and Oslo, Els co-founded the IMI Kollektief, whose critically acclaimed album Snug as a Gun was released on Clean Feed in 2006. Today, Els plays regularly in Berlin, including solo performance, group improvisation, and contem-porary music.

The soundance festival berlin presents joint projects by dancers, choreographers, musicians and composers from the Berlin independent scene and invites international guest artists. As a stimulus for dialogue between the various disciplines, the festival presents a broad spectrum of artistic styles, from contemporary dance to real-time music, from Post Butoh to New Jazz and improvisation – analog and electronic. Across generations, diverse works and formats between sound and movement will be experienced by audiences in theater and urban space.

The video documentation is produced on behalf of the Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion.
