Production Details / Press Releases

Improvisation! In four newly curated duos, four experienced dance improvisers and four musical improvisers explore the shallows, slants and nuances between their disciplines. Individual approaches and vocabularies come together and weave new dialogues. Curated by Meinrad Kneer and Jenny Haack.

Valentina Bordenave is an Argentinian freelance dancer, choreographer and since 1998, certified Alexander Technique teacher based in Berlin, graduated in dance from the Folkwang University. In her more than 20 years experience as a dancer and facilitator, Valentina has been developing her own research on spatial and energetic awareness in intense physicality. She directs the movement department at ARTHAUS Berlin – International School of Performing Arts. Others pedagogical experiences include the Inter-University Center for Dance Berlin (HZT), the Act-ing Departements at the University of Arts (UDK) and at Ernst Busch University.

Cellist Ulrike Brand performs at international festivals for experimental music. She is particularly interested in cross-border projects in the fields of visual arts, language, dance and performance. She develops her own pieces, writes texts and essays and gives guest lectures at home and abroad. In 2015, she received the Berlin Senate’s work and research scholarship. In 2016 she was a scholarship holder at the Künstlerhaus Schloss Wiepersdorf, in 2020 at the KomponistInnenfor-mum Mittersill…. Since 2018 she has been a lecturer in improvisation and conceptual composition at the Berlin University of the Arts.

The soundance festival berlin presents joint projects by dancers, choreographers, musicians and composers from the Berlin independent scene and invites international guest artists. As a stimulus for dialogue between the various disciplines, the festival presents a broad spectrum of artistic styles, from contemporary dance to real-time music, from Post Butoh to New Jazz and improvisation – analog and electronic. Across generations, diverse works and formats between sound and movement will be experienced by audiences in theater and urban space.
