Today I d-a-n-c-e a piece of poetry.
Based on the poem “Alphabet” (1981), Verse 1-8, by Inger Christensen.
Lyrical Ping Pong is a solo piece that deals with the medium of language – in the form of poetry – and by doing so, it creates its own piece of poetry. It tackles its own medium of choreography and questions its working method in an ironic way. In this work each verse is translated by three different application of translation. The structure of each verse, the sound of the read lyric and associative pictures in regard to the meaning of each word, serve as a basis for the translation. As the piece progresses the structure gets deconstructed and muddled up. Verses get forgotten, only partly remembered or summarized in their “essence”. In the translation process, the dancer continually comments her own actions with an ironic touch. She thereby provides an insight not only into the content of the poem but simultaneously reveals her choreographic structure and working method.
