Production Details / Press Releases

The piece “uterus affairs” displays the much discussed image of mothers in society. There are certain demands upon women who become mothers, mothers who are still women and women who stay women. The two dancers, both mothers themselves, dive into a discussion of what they should be, could be and want to be. Rooted in HipHop-, Funk- and Club-Cultures, their dynamic movements, changes of tempo and usage of contrasts reflect multilayered realities of women. The dancers were inspired by daily commodities, rhythms and movements of parents to portray the experiences and emotions of a life with children and to dive into different dimensions of female personalities.

Lisa Ennaoui is a dancer and choreographer working with techniques of Popping, Hip Hop and House Dance. She performed her own works e.g. at Tanz im August and for TanzNetzDresden e.V. and worked for various choreographers, companies an in different projects, e.g. for Niels ‘Storm’ Robitzky and Wilfried Ebongue. In her own work she explores movement qualities through which she aims to create characters, spaces and impressions. She is working a lot with control, stop-motion and diagonals within the body. Her studies in physical therapy shaped an analytical view on movement, which she also includes into her work on movement.

Laura Kassé is a dancer and choreographer working with techniques of House Dance, Locking, Breaking and HipHop. Beside others she choreographed and performed her solo “Cord” at Tanz im August as well as the duet “Yowla” with Mbegne Kassé at the Festival Kaay Fecc. She worked with various artists like Kat Valastur, Rain Kencana and Svea Schneider-Sierra. The quality of her movements is characterized by the interplay between a high level of energy and strength as well as softness and fluidity. Her work focuses on dance-theater-projects, exchanges with international artists and the connection between dance and social work.

Lisa and Laura are both founding members of the female collective Walashé, with which they are choreographing and performing as well as organizing events and practice sessions in Berlin. As a collective they are standing up for the positioning of women in the men-dominated structures of hip hop.
