Production Details / Press Releases

How can we discard practised points of view, like old resentments? How can we outsmart the clamour and violence of media debates? In her new piece for four performers, Latifa Laabissi suggests a surprising strategy: walk away! “White Dog” concentrates on the movements of fleeing, on turning and sidestepping as a form of poetic struggle. The French dancer and choreographer thus ties in to themes from her previous works, such as camouflage, visualising the marginalised and communities of wilful individuals.

Latifa Laâbissi studied contemporary dance in France and at the Cunningham Studio in New York. Laâbissi mixes diverse genres in her work, and questions conventional formats. She brings different off-stage perspectives onto the stage – and shapes an anthropological landscape of stories, characters and voices. Her works have been shown internationally, for example at the Festival d’Automne Paris, the Festival d’Avignon, the Centre Georges Pompidou Paris, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía Madrid, Taipei Fine Arts Museum Taiwan, MoMA PS1 New York and the Centro Municipal de Arte Hélio Oiticica Rio de Janeiro.
