Niv Sheinfeld, Oren Laor

The Third Dance

MASH DANCE Berlin | DOCK 11

Production Details / Press Releases

In their work, Niv Sheinfeld & Oren Laor reflect upon themes of love, mortality and the need to be acknowledged. “The Third Dance” starts with romanticism and its clichés – music by Mahler, flowers and a record player – but gradually uncovers a basic human need that lies beneath these cultural symbols.

Following “Two Room Apartment” from 2012, “The Third Dance” is the second creation by Niv Sheinfeld & Oren Laor that is inspired by the work of Liat Dror & Nir Ben Gal. A couple in life and on stage, Sheinfeld & Laor revisit a seminal piece in Israeli dance and contemplate it from a contemporary stance acknowledging the time that has passed since their last duet: the changes in their bodies and relationship, their perception of stage and space and their interaction with the audience.

Niv Sheinfeld and Oren Laor are Tel Aviv based dance artists and partners in life. They have been creating together since 2004, and are regularly invited to present their works in leading festivals and theaters in Israel and abroad. In their work they combine elements and practices from contemporary dance, physical theater and performance art. Sheinfeld and Laor are also teaching at the Kibbutz Seminar Dance Academy in Tel Aviv, and create works for dance companies. In 2020 the two were the recipients of the prestigious Landau Award for Arts and Science.

Niv Sheinfeld danced with Liat Dror & Nir Ben-Gal Dance Company for five years. As an independent choreographer, he created works for Bat Sheva Ensemble, Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company, and others. He was the recipient of the Ministry of Culture award for young dance artist (2007) and the Rosenblum Award for performing arts (2009). Oren Laor studied acting in the theater department at Tel Aviv University and worked with acclaimed directors such as Yvgeny Arye, Nola Chilton and Edna Shavit. Laor teaches performance and techniques in physical theater.
