In its more than 35-year history, the Rubato dance company has repeatedly taken up and analyzed social conditions and developments and then translated them into choreographic compositions. The new Rubato production is a dance piece that deals with the phenomenon of doubt. Can negative doubt be transformed by understanding the courage to collective doubt as a creative force to move into a new space: FUTURE? But what does doubt as a cognitive process have to do with the physical body made up of muscles, tendons, organs, and a skeleton? In fact, it is a complex, multi-layered interplay that needs to be explored. The choreography by Hell and Baumann turns the nine international dancers of the ensemble into a social miniature in which constant negotiation processes take place. Be active or passive, join the others, go against it or stay alone. DOUBT. Decide, wait, discard, start again. Dance and choreographic possibilities arise from this immediate physical potential. DOUBT is accepted as a productive state of uncertainty, openness to change and other perspectives. The dancers are supported by the image associations of the video artist Andrea Keiz and the live electro-acoustic composition of the musician Alexander Nickmann.

The video documentation is produced on behalf of the Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion.
